Celia Naar LCSW - Trauma Therapist

MEET CELIA

I believe that as human beings we are incredibly resilient, but weathering the storms of life can be difficult and sometimes we need more support. I work to help clients understand the impact of trauma and develop a new way of living in the world.  I integrate evidenced-based approaches including EMDR and IFS that have been proven to help heal long-term and complex trauma. I am a Certified Level 2 IFS Therapist and I am an EMDR Certified Therapist and Consultant.

I have over 10 years of experience working with survivors of both childhood and adult trauma and I have seen my clients heal in ways they never imagined possible.

More about Me

What is Trauma?

Trauma is defined as anything our brain is not prepared to handle and exceeds our ability to cope with at the time. This means trauma is not only experienced by war veterans or those who have been abused. In fact, there are many types of trauma that consist of subtle, repeated interactions/experiences that leave a person feeling unseen, unheard, uncared for, neglected or forgotten. Trauma can be a one-time event or it can build up over time.

How can therapy help?

If you want to get to the root of the issues, understand why you do what you do, and find long-term solutions and healing, then you are in the right place. I want to help you get closer to the happiness, calm, and peace you’ve always wanted.

What is IFS like?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a model that understands the mind as made up of different parts, each with its own perspective, feelings, and protective role. You might notice this already: the part of you that wants to heal and the part of you that's scared to start. The part that pushes through and the part that shuts down. IFS works with all of them.

In an IFS session, we slow down and get curious about what's happening inside rather than trying to talk ourselves out of it or push past it. You might be asked to notice where you feel something in your body, or what a particular feeling or thought is trying to tell you. It often feels less like traditional therapy and more like a guided internal conversation — one that can bring surprising clarity and, over time, real relief.

What is EMDR Like?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can sound clinical or even strange before you've experienced it. In practice, it's usually calmer than people expect. During EMDR processing, you'll focus on a memory, image, belief, or sensation while following a gentle bilateral stimulus — most often side-to-side eye movements or tapping. This bilateral stimulation activates the brain's natural processing system, allowing stuck or overwhelming experiences to be digested in a way they weren't able to be at the time they happened. You stay awake and aware throughout. It's not hypnosis, and you're always in control of what we work on and when we stop. Many people describe the experience as watching something from a distance and the memory or feeling becomes less charged as we work. Some clients report relief quite quickly while others notice it more gradually over several sessions.

Starting therapy, especially to heal trauma, can feel overwhelming & difficult. But you don’t have to do it alone.
